DC Central Kitchen issued a $48,000 grant
April 8, 2020
DC Central Kitchen’s mission is to use food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities. As a nonprofit and social enterprise, DC Central Kitchen combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation. Demand for fresh produce represents the biggest need of a holistic food access program operated by DC Central Kitchen. As a result of the COVID19 pandemic, typical food sources to meet demand are inconsistent at best, forcing the organization to purchase food to fulfill the need. At a cost of $20, one bag feeds a family of four for three days. This grant issued through the NATS4GOOD Community Response Fund covers the cost of 600 bags per week for four weeks.
